Buying Proper Computer Chairs Just Makes Sense
I’ve made my name picking fights with shortsighted managers and big corporations that simply cannot get it through their heads that employees who have a pleasant, comfortable and safe work environment will be more productive. What I’m reviewing today, though, is how that concept also holds true for small businesses and people working from home offices as well. When planning an office environment, decor is nice, but ergonomics is equally as important.
Think about a relatively straightforward position like data entry, or the typical work from home setup. The temptation might be to buy a cheap table, set a chair in front of it and be done with it. I can’t begin to tell you how many ways this would be wrong and likely to end with the poor employee suffering from carpal tunnel, back strain, headaches and possibly vision problems. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune, but you should look at a proper Computer Desk with an adjustable keyboard tray and a shelf that allows you to adjust the height of the computer screen. Buy a proper task chair that provides at least some lumbar support.
How about the reception desk? This is the spot that often serves as the point of public contact, so the tendency is to pick some fancy designer atrocity that makes a statement about how successful the company is. Save your money. You can buy a functional desk that not only looks nice, but works. A receptionist needs proper computer access, a spot for the telephone and plenty of storage.
Believe it or not, you can get all of these pieces for reasonable prices and in attractive, coordinated styles; so your staff, accountant and decorator can all be happy.
